On the way home from a conference earlier this month, I took the opportunity to take a few minutes to contemplate and enjoy looking up (again!). Quite the amazing, humbling and exhilarating experience. I really should take time out like this more often. Maybe we all should..

Look at the stars..
I had the opportunity to share in a very interesting forum on the impacts of mining and coal seam gas on rural communities yesterday at Toowoomba, organised by the Queensland Churches Environmental Network. It was great to be part of this conversation, and yet it was also troubling to hear some stories that have emerged from farmer's and other landholder's interactions with mining and gas companies. A farmer told of a mining operation commenced not far from his home. One impact he mentioned was light pollution from the mine - he couldn't see stars like he used to.
Arriving back home after the day, I looked up.
